Mexican Living: Blogging it from a Third World Country

(PRWEB) July 10, 2005 -- In the genre of memoir traveling writing, Mexican Living: Blogging It from a Third World Country debuts as a significant competitor for the Social Humor Commentary of the decade of Mexican and American relations.

Author Doug Bower bobs and weaves, as an American expatriate, in and out, over and under the multitude of cultural comparisons he makes between the two cultures. He shares critically and humorously his observations of life in a Third World Country. He takes no prisoners.

After a lifetime of living in the U.S., Bower moved to Guanajuato, Mexico, with his wife of 22 years to spend the rest of their days. Both are writers. Mexican Living: Blogging It from a Third World Country, originally meant to be a column, blew up into a full sized book. This collection of daily essays is taken from Bower's daily grind as an American expatriate.

Mexican Living: Blogging It from a Third World Country is a delightful and gentle union of humor and serious contemplation of what life is really like in Mexico. Nothing is spared--from dog poop on the sidewalks to mountains of bloodied meat sitting in the back of a truck outside your local butcher shop. Constant comparison is made between life in America and that in Mexico.

Bower also constantly examines the relationship between a Mexico-ignorant America and how that works out in issues as The Minuteman Project, The Ugly American Syndrome, NAFTA, monolingualism in America, and the Americanization of Mexico.

The book majors in the life of a conservative town in Central Mexico with column-like chapters of 650-1000 words (total book length 55,000 words) covering subjects like:

- going to the doctor,
- what a Mexican Christmas is like,
- what the good gringos are going to have to do with the bad gringos,
- Mexican crime rates, migrant workers, what an American expat finds to do all day, and much, much more.
- There is also the constant tit-for-tat of why Bower and his wife are glad to be currently in Mexico rather than in America.
