SCIREX and Primary Care Network Establish Center of Excellence for Post-Marketing Research in Primary Care

SCIREX Corporation and Primary Care Network (PCN) announced today the establishment of a Center of Excellence for Post-Marketing Research in Primary Care.

(PRWEB) July 2, 2005 -- SCIREX Corporation and Primary Care Network (PCN) announced today the establishment of a Center of Excellence for Post-Marketing Research in Primary Care. SCIREX is a leader in the delivery of Phase I-IV contract research services to the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and PCN is a 72,000-member association of physicians and other medical professionals that provides continuing medical education and clinical research.

The current health care environment means rigorous post-marketing analysis of drug safety, usage, and effectiveness is critical," said Peter Malamis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of SCIREXs Post-Marketing Solutions group, but reaching physicians engaged in real world primary care and recruiting them for research projects has historically been a challenge.

Explained Malamis, SCIREX, with its research expertise and extensive relationships with manufacturers and trial sponsors, and PCN, with its membership of thousands of highly qualified primary care providers, are ideally positioned to collaborate on post-marketing research." For SCIREXs research clients, our partnership with PCN means easier access to hard-to-reach primary care physicians, better post-marketing study design, and quicker study start-up. SCIREX is proving once again our commitment to delivering innovative solutions to the challenges facing todays pharmaceutical industry."

PCN founder Roger Cady said the Center is an exciting opportunity to help bring the insights of practicing physicians to bear on the critical issues facing drug development and use. As a national CME provider, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), PCN offers CME activities in a wide variety of therapeutic areas," explained Cady. The Center will enable PCN and our research affiliate, Clinvest, to contribute the needed research behind these efforts and facilitate the distribution of critical information to physicians who see patients every day."

The Center will provide primary care physicians with research opportunities in areas including registries; risk management; safety surveillance; and observational, outcomes, and quality-of-life studies. Additionally, the collaboration will bring PCN physicians opportunities to act as lead investigators, advisory board members, pilot program participants, and focus group subjects. Training and guidance on post-marketing research practice will be provided to PCN members by SCIREX. A major function of the SCIREX/PCN partnership will be to identify projects and programs that enhance the understanding and execution of post-marketing research in the primary care setting.
