BQT Solutions miPASS Smart Cards Get Smarter With Optimisers Real-time Digital Management

Biometrics, Activity Management will create highly secure access, payment applications.

(PRWEB) July 6, 2005 -- BQT Solutions, developer of miPASS contactless smart card solutions, and Optimiser, Digital Management specialist and creator of a unique Authoritative Metadata Engine for managing digital assets in real-time, will integrate their respective technologies, under a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding, to create "live" smart card-based applications and services that can be managed in the field, in real-time.

The combination of fingerprint biometric authentication with up-to-the-minute business activity monitoring will provide unparalleled management features and security for both users and vendors of smart card-based physical access systems, Internet payment and banking services, as well as software and eCommerce applications generally. Optimiser's Digital Management solution also introduces vital billing capabilities to smart card-based applications giving vendors flexibility for deploying new event-driven sales models, including Pay-As-You-Use (PAYU).

"We are delighted that BQT and Optimiser have come together to unite the world of physical access security with the latest in software management techniques," said John Genner, Managing Director of BQT Solutions. "We believe the union of Optimisers Digital Management and BQTs biometric smart card technologies will provide a unique and powerful solution to the problems of identity theft, password theft and Internet phishing."

BQT Solutions' smart card solutions are based on Philips Electronics' open, ISO14443A-compliant Mifare technology, the industry standard for contactless smart card-driven transaction systems. BQT enhances this technology with biometric and physical security applications to create its miPASS range of access control solutions for managing the credentials of user communities where protection and validation of an individual's identity, and their assigned privileges, are paramount. These include electronic banking, cash, payment and toll systems; identity cards for voting, healthcare, insurance and licensing schemes; military and government projects; building access and secure facilities management; as well as mobile phones, mobile devices, satellite TV set-top boxes, personal computers and peripherals.

Optimiser's Digital Management solution provides a secure eChannel for registration, activation, de-activation and management of applications and devices, including smart cards and their end-user profiles and privileges, in real-time via a central Web service console. Metadata for management reporting and billing purposes will enable application vendors to develop new revenue streams based on smart card-controlled events; while user organisations will be able to reduce costs on user administration and logistics, as well as make savings on previously unavailable Pay-As-You-Use products and services.

"Biometrics, in tandem with proper Digital Management, will prove to be the cornerstone of trusted computing for individual users and organisations, both on and off the Internet, in years to come," said Leo Mullins, Optimiser's CEO. "BQT shares this vision and understands that adding real-time software management and billing capabilities to its miPASS, state-of-the-art smart card technology, will enable our two companies to take identity protection and secure access solutions into a new dimension."

Optimiser created the Authoritative Metadata Engine - or AME - for the management of intellectual property in the digital environment in accordance with deliberations of the European Commission's INFO 2000 Programme and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The European Commission's INFO 2000 Programme's indecs Report, June 2000, defined an Authoritative Metadata Framework as necessary for the successful management, protection and trade of digitally-stored intellectual property. Assessed by BT Exact, Optimiser's approach has been cited as "completely unique and original". Optimiser is the first dedicated Digital Management company to acquire Multimedia Super Corridor status with the Malaysian Development Corporation to support the nation's strategic vision to become Asia's leading knowledge-based economy.

BQT Solutions -- a publicly listed company on the Australian Stock Exchange --- is headquartered in Sydney with international offices in London, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Chennai. It is a global leader in the development of Philips Electronics' Mifare contactless smart card applications, biometric access control and personal identification technology for physical & network security applications.
