Live Poker Tournament at the Gutshot is a Roaring Success
Getminted hosted their second only LIVE poker tournament in June at the Gutshot Poker Club in London. The Gutshot Club in Clerkenwell is well established and a fantastic venue offering its members the opportunity to play poker in relaxed and comfortable surroundings with special poker playing areas plus a restaurant and bar.
(PRWEB) July 9, 2005 -- On Wednesday 29th June, Getminted hosted their second only LIVE poker tournament at the Gutshot Poker Club in London. The Gutshot Club in Clerkenwell is well established and a fantastic venue offering its members the opportunity to play poker in relaxed and comfortable surroundings with special poker playing areas plus a restaurant and bar. Following the huge success of the first live tournament at the Gutshot, Getminted and the Gutshot teamed up once again to host what promised to be an action-packed and exciting evening - and the event certainly didn't disappoint!
The tournament itself was a No-Limit £20 rebuy with 1500 starting chips. The rebuy period was set for 1 hour and you could only rebuy when you had lost all your chips. After that the tournament moved to the standard freezeout format.
The action started at 7:30 pm with a welcome drink and some food before the first poker hand was dealt at 8pm. Judging by the state of some of the players, it was clear that a few brandies had been consumed beforehand to settle the poker nerves. Some of the players took advantage of the informal dress code, with 'Bones' turning up dressed topically in a skeleton costume! It was great to see that the Getminted players had rounded up so many supporters too - wives, partners and friends propped up the bar - it was free after all - as the excitement unfolded on, and off, the tables.
The Getminted poker professional, Mav, arrived at the event he organised with his four "Mav disco girls" in toe (aka PJ, Middlepair, Nab The Ace and JonBoyRebel) - an opportunity for the self processed "pro" to demonstrate his poker skills to his groupies - sadly it wasn't to be. It all went sour as soon as he started actually having to deliver the goods at the table. To Mav's shock and dismay, he crashed out of the tourney very early on going all in with a Jack High. Mav had to suffer the embarrassment of having to join the other 'losers' on the cash tables, which was further compounded following a pre-tournie agreement with his "disco girls" - the first one to go out has to don a Muppet t-shirt with Kermit the Frog emblazoned on the front of it (please see attached photograph!).
Mav defended himself by pointing out that one of his entourage, Middlepair, was actually out before him and was hiding upstairs in the bar, as witnessed by Titanicbar, so it should have been him sporting the Muppet t-shirt. Life is cruel, Mav!
The tournament was a great success and was enjoyed by all judging by the comments posted on the Getminted poker forum (www.getmintedpoker.com).
