Strada celebrated the grand opening of Pittsburgh's first authentic Wine & Tapas Bar, Ibiza Restaurant, on Friday, June 10th. The new 3,500 s.f. restaurant is located on E. Carson Street next to Mallorca Restaurant on Pittsburgh's South Side. With seating for 90 inside and an additional 35 in the rear courtyard, the restaurant provides a fresh contemporary look that compliments the historic neighborhood of East Carson Street.
When Antonio Pereira, also the owner of Mallorca Restaurant on the Southside, approached Strada, his goal was to create a one of a kind restaurant dedicated to serving wines from around the world with small plate Âtapas that would compliment each wine. The owner also wanted the experience of the restaurant and the architecture to revolve around the presentation of the wines, the preparation of the food, and a strong inside/outside relationship.
To meet these goals, Strada architects John A. Martine, AIA and Tom Price, Associate AIA used these three concepts to direct the design of the restaurant. The result is a series of rooms arranged in a sequence that compliments the dining experience. Like the food and the wine, each room has a different ÂflavorÂ. Whether customers sit in the Red Room, the White Room, the Bar, the Wine Room, or the courtyard, they will experience a variety of spatial and culinary ÂflavorsÂ. The restaurant also features murals by local artists that enliven this journey and emphasize the spirit of the Spanish islands.
