Nation's Top Storm Chaser to Appear in a Discovery HD Television Special -- "The Hurricane Hunter"
"The Saving Private Ryan" of hurricane chasing footage: Warren Faidley is the world's only full-time storm chasing journalist and cinematographer. He is one of the few individuals who has survived both an F-5 tornado and a Category 5 hurricane, the most powerful of storms. In September of 2004, Faidley traveled to Florida to cover Hurricanes Frances and Ivan. For the first time ever, a production crew followed Faidley into the eye of the storms to capture his "risk taking" occupation up close and personal. The spectacular program was shot on HD (high definition) format.
Tucson, Arizona (PRWEB) July 16, 2005 -- In September of 2004 Hurricanes Frances and Ivan devastated Florida with destructive winds and storm surges. While most people evacuated the coastal areas to avoid the hazardous conditions, storm-chasing journalist Warren Faidley placed himself directly in the path of both storms.
From the Discovery HD Homepage: "Warren Faidley is North America's most famous extreme weather journalist. He travels across the U.S. taking pictures of nature's deadliest storms. In the space of six days, Warren will be seen chasing hurricanes Frances and Ivan. These two killer storms tested every survival instinct Warren has gathered over a lifetime. For the first time ever, the viewer will get an inside look into Warren's world - one that most people would regard as their worst nightmare."
This is the first major television production to feature a professional storm chaser shot in High Definition (HD) format. An editor for the series says Faidley's segment is the "Saving Private Ryan of storm chaser footage." Many of the scenes shot during the segment included very "high risk" situations -- shot as the violent storms were battering South Florida. Faidley says he excited about the program. "The crews who shot this really did some incredible work under extreme conditions. At one point it nearly cost them their lives. The clarity of the HD format is breathtaking. It's like watching a hurricane out your window!"
Airdate and time: Sunday, July 24 at 8pm and 11pm and on July 25th at 8am. (See Discovery HD Schedule for re-broadcast times. Dates and times subject to change).
