AUSTIN, Texas (PRWEB) July 16, 2005 -- The only bilingual publication for Latina girls and teens, Latinitas magazine, (www.latinitasmagazine.org) is re-launching nationally with a new design.
Visitors will find the redesigned site more user-friendly, accessible for sight disabilities, with improved access to a Spanish-language version of the Webzine and new information on how girls and teens can enroll in Latinitas after school and Teen Reporter Intern Programs and free publishing workshops. Visitors will also be able to more easily sign up to become a volunteer, receive a newsletter, submit questions, or join an outreach event through new online forms.
Latinitas magazine began as a class project at the University of Texas, spearheaded by then students Alicia Rascon and Laura Donnelly. Latinitas hosts two forums for Hispanic youth: the online Latinitas (www.latinitasmagazine.org) and Teen Latinitas (www.teenlatinitas.org) bilingual magazines, in which Latina youth publish their creative works and share them nationally with their peers.
Latinitas also generates programming that further cultivates Latina youths' desire to write, publish on the web, produce radio and create their own television programs, while teaching them to use the digital technology to do so. These lessons are initiated through an after-school newsroom, a teen mentoring program, community presentations, summer camps, and a college intern program. Throughout these outreach projects, young Latinas are connected with role models and mentors who guide them in building their confidence and self-esteem.
Latinitas hopes the refreshed version of the site will bring in even more aspiring Latina journalists, as well as provide existing young writers a better forum to display their work and express ideas.
