(PRWEB) July 17, 2005 -- Dont let the Stress Mongers and Time Robbers in your life drive you crazy. The following tips and tricks are fast to implement and easy to carry out with razor sharp precision. Try them today.
Take the phone off the hook if you dont want to be interrupted while working on a last-minute project.
Put an "out of office" message on your phone. Do it. Say something like "I am in conference at the moment and unable to get to the phone--- but will return your call as soon as I am free".
Say I am with a client at the moment and will get back to you at the first available moment I am free" or something along those lines. Remember, you can be your own client.
Let the phone call go into voicemail. Then, rate the call from One to Four. Learn to only deal with the Fours. You can always use the forward button on the phone system to forward the one, two, and three priority calls to someone who can help them quicker than you can. Learn to delegate.
Allocate specific times per day to read your mail (both traditional mail and E-mail). Its amazing how many minutes of "reading" mail cuts into your project time.
If you use an electronic-based calendar system, as those provided by Microsoft Exchange or Outlook, set up a meeting for reading your mail and only invite yourself to attend.. If you use the traditional paper calendar system, allocate a set amount of time to read your mail...and stick to it. Which ever system for checking your mail, develop a habit to allocate a small portion of your day to reading mail...and Make a habit of it.
If you use a computer electronic-based calendar system, as those provided by Microsoft Exchange or Outlook, "TURN ON" Junk Mail filtering. Even with this filtering software turned on, some spam will get through to your email inbox. Get in the habit of deleting these emails first. These should take about 5 seconds to do. Once they are done, then the quality emails will remain.
Put an "Out of Office" message on your email service. Then work on your project undisturbed. Better yet, dont even open up your email client when you are working on an important project.
Get two email accounts; one for work and another for personal use. Ask your away-from-home grownup kids to only send "jokes" to your personal email account. That way, you can look at it "on your off work hours", therefore not disturbing your work time.
Put a "Do not disturb -- working on YOUR bosses project" sign across the entrance of your cubicle.
Getting away from the office to the coffee shop, or the park with a laptop and cell phone under your arm is a great way to work and not be interrupted.
If you cant escape the drop in guest", then only give them three minutes of your time. Use an egg-timer and when someone enters to ask for help, turn over the timer. When it runs out, excuse yourself, turn around and place an "imaginary" telephone call.
Learn to say NO to other peoples problems. Remember, "A rush on their part does not necessitate a rush on yours".
