Weekly Venture Capital Activity Week July 4, 2005 through July 10, 2005

This reporting period companies based in California operating in the Software industry and that have raised their Series B round of financing led the pack in the amount of venture financing raised. Also, there was ? IPOs this reporting period.

(PRWEB) July 17, 2005 -- www.capitalHunter.com was able to verify that $138 million of venture capital was invested in 20 U.S.-based companies during this weeks reporting period. The average deal size was approximately 6.90 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period decreased by 37% compared to last periods $219 million.

Geographically, six California companies raised $34.5 million in venture financings which represents 25% of the total venture capital invested this reporting period. The largest private venture financing in California this period was into Cenzic. Cenzic raised $15 million and is a Santa Clara, California based provider of security software for enterprises to assess, analyze and mitigate the risk of intentional attack and IT errors in their software applications and network infrastructure.

The software sector raised 43% of the venture capital this period. Eight software companies raised $59.5 million in venture financing. The largest private venture financing in the software sector this period was into Cenzic.

Companies raising their Series B round of financing led this weeks venture capital activity. Series B financings represented 38% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest private venture financing in Series B stage financing this period was into Digital Harbor. Digital Harbor raised $11 million and is a Reston, Virginia based provider of software for front office integration and composite application development and deployment.

The three largest venture deals this period are as follows:
1 Cenzic Software $15 million
2 WhenU.com IT Services $15 million
3 Zappos.com Retail $15 million

The following six and other unnamed investors funded the above mentioned top three venture capital investments for $45 Million:
1 Advanced Technology Ventures
2 Hummer Winblad Venture Partners
3 JK&B Capital
4 Mohr Davidow Ventures
5 Sequoia Capital
6 Trident Capital

A total of 54 equity financings of private and public companies occurred during this reporting period. Each of the 54 equity financings are profiled in a weekly report which include venture financings, private placements, secondary offerings, PIPEs, and IPOs.
