ORLANDO, FL (PRWEB) July 20, 2005 -- Americans are in a giving mood. A national insurance foundation is donating $1.7 million to fund a countrywide campaign encouraging volunteerism. The Chronicle of Philanthropy" recently reported that charitable giving in the United States rose 2.3 percent last year to $248.5 billion, the first increase in three years.

The concept of doing well and doing good" is a familiar theme to fans of real-estate investment expert Robert Allen and Chicken Soup for the Soul author Mark Victor Hansen. The two bestselling authors have long advocated giving as an important life principle.

In their most recent book, Cracking the Millionaire Code: Your Key to Enlightened Wealth, the authors emphasize helping others. As Celestial Seasonings founder Mo Siegel noted, the book teaches that besides earning a living, Doing right with the money you make is just as critical."

Allen pointed out in an article he wrote titled God & Money" that some of Americas most successful and wealthiest individuals have believed in putting others first. Allen recalled the example of John Rockefeller who taught his children to give the first 10 percent of any money they made to charity.

That kind of commitment was reflected in a 2004 philanthropic report. According to the AAFRC Trust for Philanthropy, individual giving to charities last year was up 1.4 percent over the year before. Foundation and corporate giving rose even more -- both increased giving by 4.5 percent.

Charities hope the trend continues. As Allen wrote about money, It contains the power to do so much good. Imagine the benefit that you could provide to future groups of worthy people."
