thehappycorp global and Design is Kinky Partner to Bring The Semi-Permanent Design Event to the US

Creative companies from the US and Australia gather leading international designers for a premiere event at Lincoln Center.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) July 17, 2005 -- On September 9th and 10th the Semi-Permanent Design Event, co-hosted by New York creative collective thehappycorp global and Australian design group Design is Kinky, debuts Stateside at Lincoln Center. Organized with presenting sponsor Diesel, Semi-Permanent will examine the current design climate, showcase leading talent and technology, and offer insight into the future of creative industries.

Twelve eminent artists and designers will speak about their work, ideas, and experiences at Avery Fisher Hall. Participating speakers include architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the industry powerhouse famous for their winning designs of New Yorks High Line Project and the renovation of Lincoln Center, the special effects gurus from The Orphanage, whose credits include Sin City, Day After Tomorrow, and the highly anticipated Superman Returns and Aeon Flux, 19-year-old graphic design wunderkind Chuck Anderson, photographer and digital artist Charlie White, and many more.

4000 attendees are expected. The crowd converging on the city will include industry all-stars to emerging students from a wide range of creative fields such as animation, architecture, broadcasting, fashion, graffiti, graphic design, illustration, photography, and the web, making Semi-Permanent a whos who of the creative world.

In addition to a full weekend of speaker presentations and an atrium-lounge with product and sponsor displays, 2-day pass holders will receive a Diesel gift bag bursting with exclusive gear, publications, and a 240-page museum-quality book filled with work from speakers, contest winners, and sponsors. The conference will be packed with VIP dinners, special events, nightly cocktails, and opening and closing-night open-bar parties.

Design is Kinky founder Andrew Johnstone shares his long-held excitement for the event. We started this design community on-line on the other side of the world," he says. Taking Semi-Permanent beyond those borders has always been the dream. Ever since our first Sydney event in 2003, we saw New York City as the ultimate destination; were thrilled to see that vision realized."

For his part, Doug Jaeger, founder of thehappycorp global and creative director for the conference, thinks of Semi-Permanent in terms of the survival of the fittest. Design mediums are converging," he says. And this is creating a 'super-species' of artists who have the ability to pull from a knowledge base well beyond their specific disciplines, making them stronger designers." The conference partners believe the evolution of this beast is forcing others in the industry to adapt. But will this new creature last? Semi-Permanent poses this question through its speaker roster. Weve plucked the rising super-species from the design world," Jaeger says. And they will teach the rest of us how to survive."
