When Star Magazine published photos of Katie Holmes' feet in its April 7, 2005, issue, announcing her as the winner of its "Gnarly Feet" award, it brought national attention to the problem of unattractive feet. But let's face it -- it's a common problem faced by millions of American women, who love wearing the latest shoe styles and shades of toenail polish.
You don't have to be a Hollywood celebrity for your feet to be subjected to intense scrutiny. All you really have to do is expose them in open-toed shoes or sandals. This is why so many women (and men) are just simply too embarrassed to go barefoot at the beach or wear open-toe shoes. Dr. Christopher Moore, a Carbondale, Illinois, podiatrist says, "All of my patients, particularly women, are concerned about how their feet look. In winter, I'm often asked 'What can you do to make my toes look better by summer?'"
Dr. Jack Morgan, a Monterey Park, California podiatrist says, "Whether young or old, my patients care very much about how their feet look." He adds, "Wearing open-toed shoes rather than pumps results in more emotional, psychological fear regarding the appearance of toenails. Even with a pedicure, most of my patients don't consider unattractive feet as socially, emotionally or physically acceptable."
According to Dr. Morgan, "If you wear open-toed pumps, slingbacks, flip-flops or sandals, you must take care of your skin, since you greatly increase the chances of it becoming dry, flaking or cracked." For dry, cracked heels Dr. Morgan recommends a relatively new product called CalleX® Dry Heel Ointment from Xenna Corporation which is acid-free. He says, "Among the many products for dry feet, only one contains natural enzymes, which have proven to be remarkably effective for softening and thinning thick areas, exfoliating dry cracked heels and moisturizing dry, scaling skin."
Newly patented CalleX Ointment has been shown in consumer studies to significantly reduce thick, dry, flaking skin and cracking on soles and heels within 15 to 30 days. Acid-free, diabetic-friendly CalleX moisturizes dry, rough or flaky skin, and exfoliates and thins thickened areas, while leaving normal skin unaffected. Lawrenceville, New Jersey, podiatrist Dr. Bruce Bitcover says, "There are no side effects and the ointment is easy to use. I recommend CalleX for use anywhere on the feet where thickened skin exists."
Yellow, discolored toenails are another common problem for women who want their feet to be attractive as possible. For this embarrassing problem, many podiatrists recommend NonyX® Nail Gel. NonyX Gel exfoliates the dark, yellow or thick granular material called keratin debris, which can build up under nails over time. With regular use, the gel softens, breaks down and then clears out unattractive keratin debris under the nail using natural ethanoic acid, and permits it to be scraped out from under the nail, beginning after about four weeks. Once keratin debris is removed, NonyX Gel keeps nails looking clear and attractive with regular use.
C. J. Buck, CEO of Xenna Corporation, says, "Anyone who thinks that the only people whose feet get the "fine tooth comb" lookover are Hollywood starlets is probably wrong. Unattractive feet is something people usually just don't talk about, but friends and strangers alike are apt to think 'Just look at those dry, cracked heels,' or 'Why doesn't he do something about those awful toenails?' This can happen especially when you're on vacation or a cruise where sandals are worn all the time. But essentially, heels and toenails need to look their best at all times! You never know who might be looking down."
NonyX Nail Gel can be purchased in the footcare section of Walgreens, Rite Aid, Longs, Drug Emporium, Brooks, Duane Reade and most Medicine Shoppe drugstores.
