Norcross-based Cnetics Technologies, LLC is actively seeking opportunities to present their 10g RAC system, Test tRACk, to users groups and conferences.

“There’s a lot of marketing hype in this technology and we’ve found that people want to see it, feel it, touch it and experiment with it,” says Kenny Smith, Director of Oracle/HP Services. “Folks have heard about the 10g RAC, read about it, seen it in commercials but many people haven’t had the opportunity to witness it up close and in action and have a clear concise, technical explanation and demonstration.”

The Cnetics Test tRACk (Real Application Clusters) is a quick, cost-effective testing ground and/or permanent solution to client mission critical database needs. Multi-bootable, mixed components combine the Oracle 10g RAC with Hewlett-Packard hardware with Linux, HP-UX and Windows operating systems. Units are compact and housed in a hard case on wheels, making it smart, portable and simple to deploy. The rolling database cluster may be rented short term or purchased.

Cnetics makes these solutions available to users groups as an educational tool. In addition, the company provides services, mentoring, training, deployment, and trouble shooting of 9i and 10g RAC.

“People go to users groups to make contacts and friends and to learn technical things. Companies present at conferences to show off their knowledge and promote their products, ” notes Smith. “Personally, I don’t know of any other users group presenters that take $100K worth of hardware and $240K worth of software to provide a detailed explanation of what’s done and why it’s of benefit. Most presenters rely on a laptop and PowerPoint presentations.”

Cnetics Test tRACk presentations give attendees the opportunity to learn about and get hands-on with 10g RAC. Attendees may connect to the 600-pound portable unit via a wireless access point. Hardware and software configurations are explained, and then there’s a demonstration of important RAC features such as transaction application fail over, load balancing, and scalability on the live system. Attendees are then encouraged to login via their laptops and “play" with Linux, Windows, Oracle, clustered file systems & clustered servers.

A distinguishable difference between Cnetics and other RAC vendors is that Cnetics takes the Test tRACk to users groups and conference locations, versus insisting that people interested in learning about the technology come to them.

David Scott, Georgia Oracle Users Group, says “The Cnetics presentation is Awesome! It definitely improved our group's understanding of Oracle 10g RAC and provided a useful resource for implementing this technology in our businesses.”

Cnetics presented to the Atlanta UNIX Users Group just a few months ago. Group member Lindsay Cleveland comments, “We very much appreciated the excellent and informative presentation. Kenny was an excellent speaker and able to successfully field questions with in-depth answers. The demonstration where one of the three servers was "disconnected" in mid-query and yet the response-flow continued with only a few seconds pause was very impressive!”

In the southeastern United States, Cnetics has made presentations at the Georgia Oracle User Group Conference and the International Oracle User Group Conference. They’ve also presented "Get on the Grid" to groups such the Columbus Linux Users Group, the Atlanta Unix Users Group and the East Tennessee Oracle Users Group with great success.

Smith, who has presented and demonstrated the Cnetics Test tRACk at many Oracle user conferences and customer sites, says that this ready-to-go, proof-of-concept solution accelerates an Oracle grid computing implementation.
