(PRWEB) July 21, 2005 -- The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) and Productivity by RFID, a leading RFID Consultant, Integrator and Educator, continue a nationwide series of RFID seminars. The seminar series is designed to educate and inform the 43,000 Defense suppliers required to use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). RFID is a next generation bar code technology consisting of a semiconductor chip on a label with a printed antenna which can send and receive information wirelessly.
Issued by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the RFID policy requires cases and pallets shipped to and within the Department of Defense (DoD) to be labeled with passive RFID tags. Each tag is programmed with a number which can be looked up in a database to identify its contents. An electronic Advance Ship Notice listing the numbers of the shipped cases and pallets must precede their shipment. RFID improves the DoDs ability to provide the warfighter with the right materiel, at the right time, at the right place and in the right condition.
This nationwide series of RFID seminars began earlier this year with seminars in Huntsville, AL, Richmond, VA and Miami, FL. It continues with the next...
RFID Seminar in Columbus, OH on Thursday September 1, 2005
at the Columbus Convention Center. It directly follows the NDIAs Land & Maritime Supply Chains Business Conference & Exhibition. The seminars inform the defense industry about RFID technology and its applications as well as DoD policy requirements and implementation schedules.
Productivity by RFID is joined by leading vendors of RFID technologies to provide presentations designed to aid defense suppliers in determining their RFID needs. A Department of Defense (DoD) representative briefs the RFID policy and implementation timelines required for compliance. Displays and live demonstrations further enhance the seminar participants understanding of RFIDs role in creating efficiencies and reducing costs while meeting DoDs RFID mandate. The seminar is not limited to NDIA members. For more information, visit: www.mechanicsofrfid.com/ndia
"Today, the U.S. Department of Defense, Wal-Mart, Target and Albertson's are mandating RFID in their supply chains and the FDA is piloting its use to combat counterfeit pharmaceuticals. Tomorrow, RFID will become the operating norm for manufacturers and distributors in every supply chain," said Rob Steinberg, President of Productivity by RFID, the Ohio-based co-producer of the seminar.
