The Trinidad and Tobago Association of Texas will again host their annual Independence and Scholarship Gala honoring Trinidad and Tobago's 43rd year of Independence. The event will be held August 27, 2005 at the Hotel Derek (http://www.hotelderek.com) in Houston, Texas.
The event will commence with a cocktail hour featuring entertainment provided by Trinidadian jazz pianist Dave Marcellin.
A gourmet dinner will then be served while guests hear from this year's honorary guest speaker, Dr. Hollis "Chalkdust" Liverpool, and are entertained with a cultural program featuring numerous aspects of Trinidad and Tobago culture.
Next, scholarship awards will be presented to students who over the past year have shown excellent academic prowess in their high school and collegiate studies.
Finally the evening will conclude with dancing and prize giveaways including a trip for two to Trinidad and Tobago courtesy Continental Airlines, a hotel stay, and more.
Entertainment during the dance portion will be provided by the Project One band and DJ Skintight.
