(PRWEB) July 24, 2005 -- TeamUSA Football Director, Rudy Wyland, announced today that the team has recruited Christopher Beck of Milford, MA to be part of the team roster for the August Sports Tours International Cup Tournament hosted by the Great Britain Bulldogs in Coventry, England. TeamUSA Football will be competing against Team Canada of Northern Ontario on August 24 and the Bulldogs on August 27.
Beck, a 1998 graduate of Hopkinton High School and former offensive tackle for the Hopkinton High School Hillers, is currently a full back/tight end of Cumberlands Rhode Island Prowlers in the Eastern Football League. He also plays a defensive end and outside linebacker for the team. He was a tight end and a defensive end on the Eastern Football Leagues 2004 Champion Marlboro Shamrocks last season. Beck was the eighth overall draft pick in the Atlantic Indoor Football Leagues January 2005 draft. Beck attended the 2000 NFL Combine in New Jersey and was selected as an unrestricted free agent to the NFLs Washington Redskins Football Camp in 2000. Beck is employed by Staples, Inc. in Bellingham, MA.
"Chris's combination of size, quickness and experience is going to be a great benefit to TeamUSA," Wyland said, "He's a great addition to our defensive unit and we expect him to step in immediately and be a leader." This will be TeamUSAs second appearance in Europe after playing the Austrian Football Leagues Graz Giants in Graz, Austria in May.
This is TeamUSA fifths visit to the UK and its second game against the GB Bulldogs who were defeated by TeamUSA in October, 2004 in a game played at Leicester, England. "I can't imagine that Chris will see anything in our playbook or in the play of our two opponents that he hasn't already experienced," Wyland said in noting the teams second game. The Bulldogs are a part of the British Collegiate American Football League (BCAFL).
Founded in 2002, and based in Arlington VA, Team USA Football is campaigning to be the American entry to the World Cup of American Football. The team is scheduled to play the Graz Giants and the Austrian Football League's Tyrolean Raiders in Spring 2006. Other games are being negotiated between the New York Police Department, Turkish National and French National football teams.
