Design Career Concentrations of study becomes Sessions centerpiece for Â?Preparing Design ProfessionalsÂ?

Sessions.edu (Sessions), online school of design, announces the release of 15 new courses and 18 design career concentrations within its highly-acclaimed certificate programs.

The curriculum expansion reflects Sessions' commitment to preparing design professionals. Sessions Certificate programs help students build the skills and portfolios they need for a career in design. Through hands-on projects, students learn creative and technical approaches for designing in digital media. Through critique and feedback from expert instructors, they shape a portfolio of work to show prospective employers.

Design Concentrations offer students in Advanced and Masters Certificate programs the ability to study in an area of professional focus. Each concentration is a four course program with a specific career emphasis. Available concentrations vary by program but include: advanced portfolio, corporate identity, digital photography, digital illustration, digital imaging, e-commerce, editorial design, typography, web design, flash, information design/usability, web coding, visual identity and web business.

“A primary focus of our school is to ensure our courses and programs reflect the current and emerging market requirements of the many professional opportunities open to our graduates,” stated Doris Granatowski, Sessions CEO. “Unlike many other online schools, we develop and own all our courses to ensure a consistency of student experience, as well as a tight integration of our overall learning objectives and outcomes. In addition, we maintain a rigorous review and update program to ensure we remain fresh and dynamic. Our product plan remains aggressive with another dozen or so courses in the hopper that will be released by the end of this year.”

Each of the courses within the Sessions curriculum offer students one-on-one interaction with a professional design faculty enabling them to fine tune their design portfolio. With the launch of the new Design Career Concentrations, student portfolios are now more focused to accommodate design career paths ranging from web and graphic design generalists to more specific skill sets such as publication design and interactive marketing.

To further help in preparing students for a design career, Sessions has added a Design Resources section to its recently redesigned website ( http://www.sessions.edu). The design resources help students prepare for entry into or advancement within the design career world. The resources include descriptions of more than 35 design career opportunities, tips for building a strong portfolio or work, interviewing strategies and resume tips, and freelance designer templates and contracts. Also included is a thorough report on market opportunities, growth, and salary levels for certain design careers. The report was prepared by Eduventures, the leading information service company for the education market.
