ACP Protects Teeth Against Side-Effects of Tooth Whitening
Lustrous teeth could be your secret weapon for success, creating allure in any arena, your calling card. Who wouldnt rather converse with a person whose smile shines?
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 31, 2005 -- Lustrous teeth could be your secret weapon for success, creating allure in any arena, your calling card. Who wouldn't rather converse with a person whose smile shines?
If only tooth whitening was simple and didn't come with days of fighting sensitivity and giving up your hot morning coffee, people might be greeting each other on the city streets with big toothy grins.
The good news is that the American Dental Association Foundation (ADAF) [1 - feels that they have found the answer, Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP). ACP has lately been considered an influential ingredient in toothpaste formulations because of its ability to help prevent cavities by strengthening enamel. A recent report made by Frederick Eichmiller, D.D.S., director of the ADAF's Paffenbarger Research Center in Gaithersburg, MD, claimed that ACP may be used to minimize the tooth sensitivity [2 that some users typically experience during whitening procedures, and that this new technology would be appearing in over-the-counter gels and strips in months to come.
This report confirms the conclusions of two research presentations[3 given earlier this year by Martin Giniger, DMD, PhD at the March 2005 International Association of Dental Research Conference. His presentations on the Clinical Performance of Professional Tray Bleaching Gel with Added ACP[4" - demonstrated for the first time that, ACP reduced the transient tooth sensitivity frequently felt by persons who use tooth whitening procedures by at least 50%.
The study also showed that users could drink hot and cold liquids more comfortably. Even more remarkably, evidence was provided that ACP minimizes stains that bind to teeth and could be considered a true breakthrough in tooth bleaching technology. The conclusions of this study were then published in the March 2005 issue of the Journal of American Dental Association[5, further illustrating that the addition of ACP to a tooth whitening preparation made teeth smoother and glossier so that they reflect white-light better and appear whiter. Moreover, not only did the ACP technology cause users teeth to appear whiter[6. they remained whiter much longer than those of non-ACP whitening users, and the gap between the whiteness level of the two groups grew wider as time passed.
Dr. Giniger, is considered the world's leading expert in oral products formulations, including tooth whitening gels, bleaching systems and toothpastes. When approached about the potential for ACP to hit the consumer product shelves Dr. Giniger lent a comment. He states, That's yesterday's news. I'm currently working on new technology that will far eclipse the effects of ACP". Heading up a new company, Smile Paradigm Inc.,[7 that focuses on teeth whitening formulations, Dr. Giniger claims that his whitening prospects will work much faster, provide even more sensitivity protection and, in the future, could even potentially be used to fill teeth. The thin layer of calcium today will become actual enamel rods in the future."
