Mapsexoffenders.com has now mapped 25 states with plans to map all 50 as soon as possible. Mapsexoffenders.com maps sex offenders in your neighborhood allowing users to easily zoom in and see detailed information about sex offenders living near their homes.
"People have the right to know of sex predators living near their families, said Mark Olsen, spokesman for Orbizon, Inc, developers of mapsexoffenders.com.
In accordance with Megan's Law, each state publishes a list of convicted sex offenders. Mapsexoffenders.com gathers this public information from individual State Sex Offender Registries and pinpoints the offender's last known location on the map.
"We are mapping the sex offenders of the entire nation. We hope that this will help prevent future abuse by convicted offenders," said Olsen.
Launched on a limited basis in July 2005, the free website has received tremendous response. Orbizon, Inc. now provides this free service for Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, DC, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming. New states are being added daily.
"Many victims monitor our site to keep an eye on the person who assaulted them. That's one of the sad realities of sexual crimes. Our services makes it easier for them to deal with the fear, trauma and pain," said Olsen.
Orbizon hopes that http://www.mapsexoffenders.com will make it easier for the general population to be aware of sex offenders living near them. Placing offenders on the map creates a real sense of awareness for the user.
