Lydia Parnes is the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection. The Bureau enforces a wide range of consumer protection laws, including prohibitions on deceptive or unsubstantiated claims in the advertising and marketing of foods, drugs and dietary supplements. Ms. Parnes will discuss Federal Trade Commission activities addressing obesity, including actions against deceptive claims for weight loss products, cooperative enforcement, and policy development with the Food and Drug Administration. She will also address the issues developed at the FTC and HHS's July 14 and 15 Workshop on Marketing, Self Regulation, and Childhood Obesity.
