The National Weather Service (NWS) has chosen Vaisala Group as its supplier of lightning information for a contract term of five years. The contract includes VaisalaÂs U.S. National Lightning Detection Network (NLDN), the leading lightning information system tracking cloud-to-ground lightning activity across the continental United States. New services for NWS include additional coverage over regions with exceptional weather phenomena and cloud lightning detection in critical areas for improving nowcasting.
ÂWeÂre pleased that our long-term customer, NWS, has chosen VaisalaÂs NLDN, commented Pekka Ketonen, President and CEO of the Vaisala Group. ÂIn our partnership with NWS, Vaisala will provide the most innovative and reliable solutions in lightning detection. I am confident that what we achieve together will support NWSÂs mission of protecting life and property.Â
The NWS, a line office of the U.S. National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas.
