Fine Artist To Display Colorful New Work in Rowlett--An Antiquarian Process Keeps Up with the Times

An exhibit of new work by local fine art photographer Peter J. Blackburn will be on display at the Rowlett Public Library from September 1 through October 6.

ROWLETT, TX (PRWEB) August 4, 2005 --- An exhibit of new work by local fine art photographer Peter J. Blackburn will be on display at the Rowlett Public Library from September 1 through October 6. Entitled, A Texas Spring," the display features handmade color photographs of wildflowers shot on location earlier this year in Rowlett and at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin.

Utilizing the gum dichromate process, an antiquarian non-silver process, each floral picture acquires an appearance that is both photographic and painterly. While the dichromate process is well documented, images produced using dichromate, gum arabic, and primary colors in sequence to render a full color photograph are seldom seen.

Blackburn, quite by surprise, developed an interest in photography and historical photographic processes while attending seminary. According to the artist, most of his personal images, by far, are rendered in gum dichromate. He states, It is a process that is both humble in nature and humbling in practice. It is a bit unpredictable, sometimes a struggle. With so much time required to prepare the many steps along the road to a quality image, I frequently allow myself opportunities to pause, anticipate, and reflect. I find the satisfaction that I experience when at last I review the completed image is worth all the hours of labor."

The display will be located in the library lobby along with educational supplementation. An opportunity to receive a free bookmark created from a dichromate print will also be available.
