Black People are Starting to Win the Reparations Battle; but Need to Demand Accountability at the Million More Movement Rally in Washington D.C.

Emerging Minds, Inc., who operates the online portal http://emergingminds.org, calls on representatives from the Black community to lay out a plan for all past and future payments made in the name of reparations starting at Octobers Million More Movement rally in Washington D.C.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 5, 2005 -- Emerging Minds, Inc. would like to use the legendary African drums to send out a call to all Black organizations in the Diaspora, in particular, those who operate in North America.

With the recent string of million dollar payouts made by American corporations in the name of reparations for African Americans, it is beginning to look like Black People may be starting to win the reparations battle.

However, many of these corporations have been dictating to Black people how the money will be allocated, even going as far as greasing the hands of many of the big" name Black organizations without any accountability.

It is time that Black people start to demand that accountability. Millions of dollars in payments made from the likes of corporations such as Wachovia, J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, Nationwide Life Insurance, American National Life Insurance, and American General, are beginning to fall through the cracks as the masses of African Americans miss out on any benefit.

Emerging Minds, Inc. is urging N'COBRA, the National Black United Front, the Congressional Black Caucus, the NAACP, SCLC, the National Action Network, Rainbow Push, the Urban League, 100 Black Men, the Black Chamber of Commerce, as well as all other local, national, and international organizations to come together to lay out a plan for all past and future payments made in the name of reparations for Black People.

Within the last 2 years, there have been more than half a billion dollars promised by private corporations in the United States of America in the name of reparations for Black People. One of the more recent cases was Wachovia Corporations admission of guilt for building its company from money made from the forced servitude of Africans that were brutally brainwashed after they were kidnapped from their native lands.

According to the Birmingham Business Journal, Wachovia reported assets of $511.8 billion as of June 30 and in 2004 made $25 billion in community loans and investments to revitalize neighborhoods, and donated more than $82 million to charities. This is why it is important that the Black community stay steadfast with their reparations demands, as the $10 million promised by Wachovia is just a drop in the bucket of what they really owe.

What's more is that Wachovia, along with the other American corporations that have admitted guilt for slavery, have dictated to the Black community how they will distribute the money. Arrogantly ignoring the will of the people, Wachovia has told the press that it plans to distribute the $10 million over a five year period through a string of new and enhanced partnerships.

I ask, in the name of every Black person in America, is Wachovia's partnership with the Association for the Study of African-American Life and History, the United Negro College Fund, the NAACP and the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, (who were all promised a piece of the $10 million pie from Wachovia according to the Birmingham Business Journal) going to benefit the Black people who need this money most. Will they even see one red cent of this money? Is any of this money going to be used to chart out a 10, 20, 50 year plan for the future of the Back community?

Wachovia is just the tip of the iceberg; Detroit News Online has reported that American General paid a $215 million settlement, and Nationwide life insurance companies paid more than $500 million in settlements for past racial discrimination. In addition, the Chicago Sun Times reported that J.P. Morgan Chase Bank is trying to get away with only a $5 million dollar settlement.

As you can see, if the Black community continues to let the well known Black organizations get paid off with measly million dollar payments and don't stand up and demand accountability then reparations will be paid without any benefit to the masses.

Fortunately, the Million More Movement rally to be held on October 15th 2005 appears to be the ideal time for this dialogue to begin. If you or your organization would like to join the Emerging Minds in an effort to demand accountability for all past and future payments made in the name of reparations for Black People, please contact us so we can begin to work together to organize a plan.
