Patent Paralegal Career: New Training Course Covers Basics of Patent Law for Paralegals

Paralegals/secretaries interested in patent law as a career may gain specialized knowledge necessary to help secure a position.

Arvada, Colorado (PRWEB) August 5, 2005 -- Intellectual Properties Enterprises, Inc, an educational publishing company, announced the launch of a new self-paced course aimed at helping paralegals and secretaries interested in pursuing patent law as a career.

Paralegals and legal secretaries are currently in high-demand. The U.S. Department of Labor projects that the paralegal profession will grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2010.

There are many specialties a paralegal may choose from. One of the most in-demand and high paying is in the field of patent law. Paralegals entering this specialty are commonly called patent paralegals or patent secretaries.

Patent paralegals work alongside a Patent Agent or Patent Attorney, helping to file the legal documents required to secure a patent," said Lisa Parmley, This process can take several years and require a great deal of correspondence to the United States Patent and Trademark Office." Ms. Parmley is the president of Intellectual Properties Enterprises, Inc.

Helping to file the legal documents required for gaining a patent involves training above and beyond the normal training required for becoming a paralegal. The field of patent law is exceedingly complex. Although there is currently no required coursework or certification, paralegals and secretaries need to gain knowledge about patent law to work in the field.

The newly launched Basic Patent Training™ course will serve as a primer on patent law. No certification or credits are granted. However, the course provides a basic overview of patent law for paralegals, secretaries and others interested in a career in patent law. Intellectual Properties Enterprises, Inc has plans to release a more advanced course in the future. Please visit www.patenteducationseries.com/patentparalegal.html for more information.
