HACKENSACK, New Jersey (PRWEB) August 6, 2005 -- Progenitor Cell Therapy, LLC is pleased to announce that it has strengthened its management team with the addition of Stewart Craig, PhD, a pioneer in cellular medicine, as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.

As Chief Operating Officer at Xcyte Therapies, a company developing cell-based technology for the immunotherapeutic treatment of cancer and other diseases, Dr. Craig was responsible for various functions, including: process and assay development; GMP facilities; GMP operations; quality systems; and regulatory affairs. He was also involved in business development activities, the preparation and filing of an S1 to the SEC and also participated as a key team member in Xcytes successful efforts to be listed as a public company.

During the last 20 years in the biotechnology industry, Dr. Craig has developed his management expertise to include the design, construction, validation and operation of cGMP facilities for pilot and clinical trial-scale production of a variety of cellular therapeutics, including activated T cell products, mesenchymal cells, and manipulated hematopoietic cell products.

He has been involved in the development and implementation of regulatory strategies for cell-based therapeutics and in the management of all elements of related regulatory affairs, including submission of INDs and annual reports, both domestically and abroad.

Previously at Osiris Therapeutics, Inc., a company developing mesenchymal stem cell-based therapies, and at SyStemix Inc., a pioneering hematopoietic stem cell and gene therapy company, Dr. Craig has been responsible for Development and Operations; Product and Process Development; Quality Assurance; and Quality Control.

Dr. Craig received his PhD at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in protein folding. His early career work included working as a post-doctoral scientist for Biogen SA (Geneva) and as a group leader for British Biotech PLC (Oxford), where he gained significant experience in the research, development and manufacture of recombinant proteins and antibodies.

Dr. Craig has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific and technical papers and has presented at many national and international conferences. He is a member of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering, the International Society for Cellular Therapy, and has been an active member of the Biochemical Society, the Protein Society and the United States Pharmacopoeia Cell and Gene Therapy Advisory Panel.
