Artist named President of American Impressionists Society

Florida artist Mary Garrish-Podnos took the helm as President of the American Impressionists Society on August 1,2005. Dr. Garrish-Podnos is a well known Florida Plein Air artist represented by galleries in several Florida locations.

Merritt Island, Fla. (PRWEB) August 6, 2005 -- Florida artist Mary Garrish-Podnos took the helm as President of the American Impressionists Society on August 1,2005. Dr. Garrish-Podnos is a well known Florida Plein Air artist represented by galleries in several Florida locations.

The American Impressionists Society was founded by Master Pastelist Bill Schultz (1920-2005) and promotes outdoor painting and figure and still life painting in the studio. Emphasis is always on capturing light and color, using broken brush strokes and thick impasto spots of color to create a dazzling impression of the subject.

It is with great appreciation that I take over the leadership role in the AIS from the extremely capable Charlotte Dickinson," We intend to expand the role of the AIS in promoting the work of Plein Air and Studio artists using Impressionist painting techniques on a nationwide scale," explained Garrish-Podnos.

One of my goals as an artist is to share my own heightened awareness of the awe and wonder that is our world with others as they engage in the act of viewing my paintings. I believe that it greatly enriches our lives when we are able to appreciate the beauty of the simple and ordinary natural objects that surround us on a daily basis."

Mary left a prior career as a surgeon to pursue a full time devotion to painting. Her artistic styles span traditional Plein Air landscapes, as well as still- lifes and some pastels. She is currently represented at Catch 22 gallery in St. Augustine and, J. Roberts Gallery in Jacksonville. She has participated in numerous juried art shows over the last decade.
