DPI's 12 patents, filed between 1994 and 2001, are the result of research and development efforts on the part of southern California-based Synthonics Technologies, Inc. Between 1993 and 2002, Synthonics developed computer implemented 3D graphic generation and display technologies that are now fundamental to many current and developing technology fields, including 3D modeling and visualization, video games, motion picture graphics, and biometrics. These industries benefit from technology that allows simplification of common 3D modeling tasks, such as building polygon-based wire frames, automatically applying photographic textures to wire frames, and displaying images in a perceived 3D format.
