Gene Kraig-New York City Author and Prison Reform Advocate to march in DC 8/13

Having lived prison's effects on the inmate and family Gene's activism proposes legislation that will mean huge savings for the government: a win-win for the offender, families, taxpayers, US.

(PRWEB) August 8, 2005 -- Gene Kraig, is a dedicated prison reform advocate and has drafted legislation to close all camps and minimum security federal prisons. She is joining the March of Family Members and Friends of People Incarcerated, Aug. 13th, in Lafayette Park, to protest Draconian prison policies.

Gene advocates reform and that offenders serve rigorously supervised house arrest while attending comprehensive mandatory rehab programs. Turn turnstile recidivists (60% low level drug offenders) into law abiding citizens. Keep families in tact. The saving is huge. Billions to incarcerate Vs $6,000 annually per offender for rehabilitation.

Her forthcoming book, THE SENTENCE, A Family's Prison Memoir, to be released by Greenpoint Press, January 2006, concerns her trials with the prison system during her husband's incarceration for a white collar crime in Cleveland, Ohio that had devastating consequences for him and her family.
