The San Diego Film Festival, an annual celebration of film produced by the San Diego Film Foundation, has selected Gable-Cook-Schmid Public Relations (GCS-PR) to direct the public relations and strategic marketing communications efforts for the 2005 run. The Festival, held September 21-25 in the Gaslamp Quarter, is a five-day competitive event that features more than 75 films, nightly parties and special events as well as workshops, panels and a national screenwriting conference.

“GCS-PR’s creativity, extensive industry experience and unparalleled media relationships have elevated the Film Festival both regionally and nationally,” said Robin Laatz, founder and executive director for the San Diego Film Festival. “The visibility resulting from their efforts has helped us increase film submissions by 30 percent and more than double our sponsorships. That’s incredible for a Festival in its fourth year.”

Since the Festival’s inaugural year, Gable-Cook-Schmid has worked to raise visibility of the Film Festival. Its efforts have resulted in more than 120 television and radio segments, in excess of 200 print and online articles, 10 industry and local awards, four top-10 honors in the Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide and a national Bulldog Media Relations award for excellence in entertainment publicity.

GCS will council the Festival on overall communication strategy, serve as publicity liaison to celebrities and filmmakers, and manage media relations with local news and national trade media. Jennifer Chidester, GCS director, will lead the San Diego Film Festival campaign.
