When Dr. Deirdre Habermehl decided to learn the non-surgical alternative to liposuction known as Mesotherapy, she went directly to the source. Spending an extended time period in France, where the procedure originated, she studied and received her certification from Dr. Jacques Le Coz, the prize pupil of the techniqueÂs creator and the only living Mesotherapy pioneer.
ÂI had one-on-one training, Dr. Habermehl says. ÂItÂs worth it to spend the time and money to learn the technique from the best. That way I can offer it to my patients with confidence.Â
The founder of the Habermehl Aesthetic and Wellness Center, with offices in Newport Beach (Dr. Habermehl relocates her practice from Tustin to Newport Beach with this new facility) Dr Habermehl recently opened a new facility in Beverly Hills, She began offering non-invasive cosmetic procedures such as Mesotherapy, Thermage and injectable fillers in response to her patients desires to look and feel younger, fitter and better. With an emphasis on mind-body wellness, she meets with each new patient for 90 minutes for an in-depth evaluation, and suggests vitamins and other supplements when she feels it appropriate. She describes her practice, which now includes men as well as women, as Âintegrative medicine with cosmetic aspects. Dr. Habermehl performs every cosmetic procedure herself.
In Mesotherapy, a combination of traditional and homeopathic medicines is injected into the fat cells of the mesoderm (middle) layer of the skin, in targeted areas such as the belly and buttocks. The cells then shrink gradually, with patients reporting up to eight inches lost as well as a reduction in cellulite.
Mesotherapy is the only effective treatment for cellulite.
ÂThe idea is to treat the problem locally, treat the fat cells where they live, Dr. Habermehl explains. ÂYou donÂt have the surgical risks, incision or possible lumps of liposuction. ThereÂs no recovery time, and you donÂt have to stay out of the sun. And I use a natural technique, developed in France, that I think is safer, but equally effective to the American version. Many American mesotherapists have been known to use large quantities of a substance that has been banned in France and Brazil.Â
Thermage has been called a one-hour facelift and is also approved by the FDA to treat acne scarring. As we age, the collagen under our skin stretches, thins and produces wrinkles. Thermage utilizes a small tip to deliver radiofrequency (RF) energy to the collagen to tighten it, while at the same time, a cooling spray protects the skin. Along with the immediate tightening, new collagen is stimulated by your own body, further tightening and lifting the skin. The result: A well-rested, refreshed look, which takes about three months to reach its full effect.
ÂMaybe you look tired, with some skin sagging, says Dr. Habermehl, who is one of the few practitioners in the U.S. trained to perform Thermage on other areas such as arms, legs, abdomen and buttocks. ÂOr you have jowls or the infamous turkey neck. Thermage will tighten that up. YouÂll look better, not different. People can look very different after a facelift.Â
And unlike a facelift, thereÂs no bruising or recovery time with Thermage, and no need to keep out of public view, too embarrassed to show oneÂs healing face. ÂWho has time to stay home for a month? Dr. Habermehl says.
In addition to Mesotherapy and Thermage, Dr. Habermehl performs laser hair removal and IPL (intense pulse light) treatments for skin rejuvenation. She also addresses patients dietary and hormonal concerns, and offers bio-identical hormonal replacements, a more natural approach to the management of menopause.
A 1985 graduate of the New York University School of Medicine, she served her internship at Brown University and residency at Stanford. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and was a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin Medical School before relocating to Southern California.
To Dr. Habermehl, patients aren't just medical charts and body parts. ÂI spend time with my patients, getting to know them, and I treat each one as a whole person, she says. ÂI develop a personal relationship with all my patients.Â
