American Longevity and the MLMIA Join Forces To Create Awareness Regarding the FDA Health Claim Approval Process
The MLMIA joins American Longevity in their crusade to make the public aware of the importance of fair practices between the FDA and all nutritional companies.
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) August 14, 2005 -- The Multi-Level Marketing International Association (MLMIA) joins forces with Dietary Supplements Company, American Longevity in their crusade to make the public aware of the importance of fair practices between the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and all nutritional companies.
Mr. Ed Jarrin, President of the MLMIA, announced today the first of the associations regional corporate events in conjunction with American Longevity. The one-day event will be Tuesday, October 18, 2005 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM PST at the American Longevity headquarters in Chula Vista, California (just south of San Diego). For more information, or to register for the one-day regional event, visit www.mlmia.com.
Mr. Steve Wallach of American Longevity will be hosting the corporate showcase. The event will focus on American Longevity's past interactions with the FDA regarding the Health Claims Petition program and what can be done to improve the process. The MLMIA and its corporate members are joining with American Longevity to show their support and help the public recognize the importance of improving the timely Health Claim Petition approval process.
We are making progress in our mission with the FDA by having the MLMIA join forces with us," states Steve Wallach of American Longevity. The more people that recognize the importance of having the FDA act responsibly; considering supplements and the words used to describe them effectively, the healthier we will be as a nation."
American Longevity has submitted several Health Claim Petitions to the FDA and is responsible for the authorized Health Claim Petition for Selenium and its relationship to Cancer Risk Reduction. American Longevity has helped to defend the Health Claim Petition process through the courts and has submitted many official comments to the FDA on behalf of the nutrition industry, all in an effort to help consumers have more access to truthful information in order to base a more informed decision regarding their own health and wellness. American Longevity has currently been waiting over 20 months, with five extensions from the FDA, to have a Lycopene/Cancer Health Claim approved.
American Longevity has two U.S. senators behind their cause. In a letter dated July 7, 2005, U.S. Senators Tom Harkin and Orrin Hatch wrote Dr. Lester Crawford, the commissioner of the FDA expressing their concern about the length of time it takes to get an approval for Qualified Health Claim Petitions. The letter specifically asked how many petitions the FDA currently had, the length of time it has taken to approve each one, how many full-time equivalents (FTEs) are devoted to review them and the grade levels of the reviewers. The senators offered the disposal of their staffs to meet with the FDA to solve the problem.
In May 2005, American Longevity launched the Live Free or Die campaign to raise awareness and funding for the fight for our first amendment right by gaining permission from the FDA to use words that educate people on the positive elements of supplements and nutrients.
