I always said if I could figure out how to take the cedar oil from the cedar tree and put it into other woods, the wood preservation deliemma would be over, quotes Dave Glassel, President of CedarCide Industries, a Woodlands, Texas based R&D Company.

Glassel recently filed six patent applications related to the invention CedarShield, a wood stabilizer and termiticide. With the help of my ingenious associate Gary Mellema, a silicone specialist and Ben Oldag, my lifelong mentor, the successful endeavor to create a replacement for the Toxin Laden wood preservation treatments of CCA, ACQ, Creosote and others was soon realized. The historic art and technology of wood bulking used in the early 20th Century was ressurrected using Next Generation Hydro-Carbon solvents provided by Conoco Phillips and specially formulated silicone components invented by G T Products of Dallas, Texas. The newly formed molecule spiked with internally modified Cedar Oil acts a crosslinker for the components that penetrate the cellular structure of wood media providing a perpetual water, decay and insect proof treatment.

The State of Texas boasts 22.5 million acres of Juniperous Virginiana, a nuisance Cedar Tree. Oklahoma has 8.5 million acres of the pest growth that invades the State by 750 acres per day. Cedar is a renewable resource that will naturally reproduce tenfold upon harvest. Ben Oldag states, nothing grows under a Cedar Tree, until you cut it down. Then 10 dormant seedlings come alive. To date, the best use for cedar has been, fence posts and pencils. The use of Cedar Oil as a wood preservative will stimulate the Cedar usage.

Wood preservation methods prior to CedarShield have been done by injection of toxins and heavy metals into the cellular structure of the wood, an effort to combat deterioration of wood from insect and decay organisms. CedarShield enters the media through the woods vascular system, the same method the wood uses to take on nutrients when the tree is alive. The CedarShield solution tricks the timber into thinking it is still alive and it welcomes the treatment solution into its cellular structure. The solvent based penetrant forces the moisture from the wood and fills the Hydroxyl group molecules with CedarShield fluid. The solvent evaporates and the molecular structure of the wood is left bulked with Cedar oil and Silicone. Cedar oil is a natural termiticide and anti-microbial compound that controls insect and decay damage. Silicone is a water proofing agent. With CedarShield, total dimensional control is realized and the need for a damaging kiln dry process is eliminated. The green wood treatment process can be done with a soak, vacuum or pressure process. No equipment changes are necessary for transition to treatment with CedarShield. CedarShield is a environmentally friendly GREEN product denoted as a MINIMUM RISK PESTICIDE by the EPA. Learn more at http://www.cedarcide.com.
