Lifestyle Guru/Acclaimed Chef/Author and PBS Cooking/Lifestyle Show Host George Hirsch Launches New National Weekly TV Series, "George Hirsch Living It Up !" in 130 U.S. Markets, Reaching 65 Million U.S. Households, September 3

Well known chef, author and life style guru George Hirsch, who entertained PBS viewers for nearly 15 years with his previous cooking/lifestyle series, premieres his new 26-weekly, half-hour series "George Hirsch Living It Up !" in national syndication. New series will premiere on September 3rd in 130 markets, including such cities as Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Washington, DC, and others. Series will reach 65 million U.S. households.

Lifestyle guru George Hirsch, who has fascinated and delighted PBS viewers for 14 years with his four previous cooking/lifestyle series, launches a fast-paced, new version of his latest hit skein, George Hirsch Living It Up!, on September 3. The 26 weekly half-hours, from Hirsch Productions, are distributed by Orlando-based Television Syndication Company (TVS) and feature delicious recipes that are easy to prepare, world class locations, helpful home improvement ideas, lots of interesting unique information and a wide range of recreational activities to help viewers develop a healthy, lively and fulfilling approach to life.

With its premiere weekend of September 3rd, Mr. Hirsch’s new series had been picked up by as many as 130 stations, reaching 65 million households. The station line –up includes KHIZ-TV Los Angeles, WPSJ Philadelphia, KFTY San Francisco-San Jose, WJAL Washington D.C., WMFD/WOHZ Cleveland-Akron, KWHD Denver, KMAX/KOVR Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto and WBGN Pittsburgh. George Hirsch Living It Up! will also air on America One, Urban American Television and Foxnet.

Created, hosted and exec produced by Hirsch, each episode begins and ends with a savory cooking segment in his home kitchen in The Hamptons and includes a recreational activity section and a “live well” part (that features travel, home, food, wine, dining and much more). Highly scenic locations in the first 26 episodes include Italy, Ireland, London, New York City, New Orleans, Sedona, Montauk (Eastern Long Island) and the Caribbean.

The New Yorker declares, “His holistic approach to enhancing his audiences’ lives has made George Hirsch an integral part of the American culture, with passionate and devoted followers. He strives to make them enthusiasts cultural connoisseurs, who are constantly striving to increase their breadth of knowledge through food, sport, travel and the good life.”

George assures his nationwide audience each week, “If I can do it, you can do it!” Living It Up’s vast range of activities includes golf, tennis, hiking, boating, deep-sea fishing, flying lessons, antique hunting, hot air ballooning, fly fishing, rock climbing, and NASCAR driving. The show visits beautiful resorts and spas, a championship horse show, a historic NYC hotel, top B&Bs, wine cellars, a micro-brewery and a variety of magnificent gardens. The show’s numerous home activities include gardening, installing home entertainment system, dining alfresco and creating a backyard putting green.

“In our second episode, airing September 10, we visit Ashford Castle in Ireland’s County Mayo,” Hirsch explains. “It begins and ends with me cooking a cheddar-potato soup and a bacon-grilled vegetable salad. We get a fascinating lesson in falconry and then hit the links for golf tips and charming Irish banter from a major pro. Then we take a fascinating tour of this 13th Century castle resort, with its fabulous wine cellar, amenities, grounds and dining. Our “live well” segment shows how to do effective advance travel planning with tourist groups.”

Hirsch has a rich sense of humor and a very positive attitude, which colors every episode. “Life today is hard for many people, so I love creating happiness for a half-hour each week, by sharing the things that I enjoy and that fascinate me, fun things that are doable by anyone.

In my new series I’m able to deliver new ideas on ways my audience can experience a better life. Each episode is different, as we encounter thrilling new experiences in food, recreation, travel and indoor/outdoor home improvement.”

As a chef, Hirsch was deeply influenced by his Italian-American mother and grandmother. His Austrian-American father was a master gardener. He is a graduate with high honors from the Culinary Institute of America, a Certified Executive Chef and a Certified Culinary Educator.

As a five-time best selling cookbook author, The American Culinary Federation inducted him into the Academy of Chefs. He was the Culinary Director and developed the Culinary Arts Center at New York Institute of Technology, a fully accredited college-level culinary school, growing it from 35 students to 600, many of whom went on to cook at world-class restaurants, develop successful restaurant chains and write popular cookbooks.

Millions of viewers enjoyed Hirsch’s weekly PBS programs "Grilling with Chef George Hirsch", "George Hirsch's Know Your Fire", "George Hirsch for Better Living and Lifestyles" and "George Hirsch Living It Up!" Hirsch discussed food and lifestyle on many national talk shows, including The Today Show, Good Morning America, Live with Regis and Kelly, Later Today and programs on CNN, TNN, Food Network, MSNBC, Disney Channel, Food Channel and America's Health Network. He has also been heard on NPR, WABC, CBS, USA Radio Network and has contributed to or been covered in periodicals such as Gourmet Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, Good Housekeeping and Family Circle.

Hirsch has earned many awards and honors including a black belt in karate and the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the American Culinary Federation. The easygoing chef is proud to be co-founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Chef and Child Foundation, a national program with more than 20,000 American chefs dedicated to fighting hunger and emphasizing nutrition among the young.
