CBS television has selected the song, Â?WhatÂ?s in Your Mind,Â? written and performed by Rainbow Quartz Recording Artists, The Grip Weeds, to promote their new fall 2005 crime drama, CRIMINAL MINDS, staring Mandy Patinkin. The chorus of Â?WhatÂ?s in Your Mind,Â? is prominently featured as the core music for both the 20 and 30 second-long CRIMINAL MINDS promotional commercials, which are currently running in heavy rotation on national CBS stations and affiliates, until the program premiers on September 22, 2005.

The thrill-a-minute drama CRIMINAL MINDS centers on the efforts an elite squad of FBI profilers in the Behavioral Analysis Unit, aka "mind hunters," who meticulously piece together portraits of killers and other major offenders in an effort to pinpoint their motivations and identify their emotional triggers in order to stop them.

Taking inspiration from classic and modern rock, The Grip Weeds' psychedelic-tinged songs, riff-driven melodies, and multi-layered vocal harmonies and guitars have not only hooked listeners, but an important CBS Television executive as well. The song for the CRIMINAL MINDS promotional effort required a lyrical hook centering on the show’s basic premise; a group of FBI Profilers trying to determine what’s in the mind of their quarry. While the title, ‘What’s In Your Mind,’ turned out to be very apropos, the song’s energy and chorus hooked CBS’s Brad Roe, Director of Drama Promotions, on ultimately selecting the song for the program’s promotional campaign.

Most up-and-coming bands can spend an entire career simply trying to track down the right television executive who selects the music for television commercials or programs. But, in Brad’s case, it was simply a matter of finding ‘What’s In Your Mind,’ through an Apple iTunes Music Store title search. Using a keyword search for ‘mind’, Brad previewed several songs before coming upon The Grip Weeds’ ‘What’s In Your Mind.’

According to Brad, “The initial search brought up countless songs which featured the word ‘mind’ in its title. Immediately, the title of The Grip Weeds song had grabbed me, but it was the chorus that was exactly what we needed, as the lyrics sell the premise of the show. I also liked the energy of the song and felt that its contemporary sound would appeal to a younger demographic.”

The Grip Weeds, described by The Village Voice as, ‘“The natural progression from the Who to the Jam to Oasis!,” released their fourth self-produced, full-length CD in late 2004, GIANT ON THE BEACH. “What’s in Your Mind,” appears on their 2003 full-length release, ‘The Sound Is In You.’

The Grip Weeds was co-founded by guitarist/vocalist Rick Reil and his brother, drummer/lead vocalist Kurt Reil. The Grip Weeds also features guitarist Kristin Pinell and bassist Mike Kelly. According to Rick, “As a songwriter, you really have to appreciate and respect the iTunes Music Store’s importance in breaking and exposing new music to audiences and opportunities unimagined only a few short years ago. If it weren’t for iTunes, who knows whether CBS would have ever found our song. As a band, we’re grateful to CBS for choosing our song for the CRIMINAL MINDS promotional campaign, as well as to iTunes for being such an incredible music promotion portal that put us together with CBS."

The Grip Weeds also announce the launch of their 'Grip Weeds iPod Shuffle Giveaway'. The iPod Shuffle will be stocked with Grip Weeds songs, including “What’s In Your Mind,” featured in the promotion for the CBS show CRIMINAL MINDS. The contest ends on September 30, 2005, so make sure you visit The Grip Weeds' web site to register for the contest.
