Libertarian Dennis Hawver Changes Registration To GOP, Enters GOP Gubernatorial Primary; Bret Landrith To Be Running Mate

Dennis Hawver, vice chair of the Kansas Libertarian Party, registered today as a Republican and immediately filed papers to run in the Republican gubernatorial primary election scheduled for August 1, 2006.

Topeka, KS (PRWEB) August 19, 2005 -- Dennis Hawver, vice chair of the Kansas Libertarian Party, registered today as a Republican and immediately filed papers to run in the Republican gubernatorial primary election scheduled for August 1, 2006.

Hawvers campaign, to be called Common Sense in 06," will focus on:

· Legalize beer by returning the minimum drinking age to 18
· Revamping the public K-12 education system to reduce costs, provide for parental control and involvement, and improve educational achievement; and
· Reducing the size of Kansas state government.

We need to return to common sense in our state government," Hawver said. If 18-year-olds can vote in elections and fight in Iraq, they certainly should be able to drink a beer without fear of arrest."

Hawver had previously run for the U.S. Congress as a Libertarian in 2004, and was the most widely-supported gubernatorial candidate ever fielded by the Kansas Libertarian Party in 2002.

Hawver said that Republicans have been urging him to register as a Republican and run for some time, telling him that his name recognition is greater than other potential Republican gubernatorial primary hopefuls, and that his common sense" political philosophy follows traditional Republican principles better than the rest of the field in the Republican primary.

Dennis Hawver participated in the states school finance battle, representing the public interest group Kansans For The Separation of School and State. He outlined to the Supreme Court his proven plan for a complete revamping of the educational system in Kansas that would reduce costs, place control of our schools in the hands of Kansas parents, and greatly improve educational achievement for Kansas students.

Dennis Hawver, a Vietnam Veteran plans to continue his outspoken opposition to the tragic, costly and unconstitutional Iraq war. He wants to Support our troops" by bringing them home to guard our sieve like borders.

Hawvers running mate is attorney Bret Landrith of Topeka. Landrith specializes in healthcare finance issues in his practice and is currently involved with preventing states from being overcharged in Medicaid.

Healthcare is second only to housing in its impact on our citizens," Landrith said. Bringing 'common sense to our current healthcare system should be a concern for every responsible elected official."

The duo plan to formally announce their campaign at 12:00 noon on the South steps of the State Capitol building in Topeka, and open their campaign headquarters in Ozawkie shortly.
