Identity theft and false credit report damage can prevent a consumer from purchasing or refinancing a home. Identity Theft and Credit Report Damage Expert Attorney Robert F. Brennan will discuss how to avoid and handle identity theft and and false credit report damage at Century 21 Broadview Realty in La Crescenta, Ca. on Aug. 27, 2005 at noon.

More than 25% of consumer credit reports surveyed contained “serious errors that could result in the denial of credit, such as false delinquencies or accounts that did not belong to the consumer” according to a 2004 report by the National Association of State PIRGS (Public Interest Research Groups). The majority of consumers never know anything is wrong until they try to purchase or refinance a home.

Century 21 is committed to educating its real estate professionals to assist consumers in identifying problems and referring them to professionals who can help. Century 21 Broadview Realty has called upon an expert attorney in the area of identity theft and wrongful credit report damage, Robert F. Brennan of Brennan, Wiener & Associates, to address its realtors and agents on August 26, 2005 at 1 p.m. The location is at 3600 Oceanview Blvd., Ste. 5, Glendale, Calif.

“If consumers and real estate professionals don’t know the basics of cleaning up false derogatory information on credit reports, chances are they’ll never own a home or they’ll pay the maximum interest if they manage to buy one,” says Mr. Brennan.

Brennan offers consumers three strategies for disputing and resolving false information on credit reports. First, visit the websites of the three major credit bureaus, Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, just to get general information about disputing false information. Second, Brennan advises that consumer conduct all disputes via certified mail, because it is much more useful to keep a complete paper trial. Third, Brennan cautions against using credit clean-up services, which can actually aggravate the situation by disputing all credit information, even valid information, which can jeopardize the consumer’s chances of getting the false information cleaned up.
