Champ Camp Helps Asthmatics Take Rocky Mountain Breather

Children with moderate to severe asthma could breathe a little easier with 23 students from Pima Medical Institute, 1701 W. 72nd Ave. Suite 130 in Denver among the volunteers at Champ Camp, the Rocky Mountain regions residential summer camp for children with asthma.

(PRWEB) August 24, 2005 -- Children with moderate to severe asthma could breathe a little easier with 23 students from Pima Medical Institute, 1701 W. 72nd Ave. Suite 130 in Denver among the volunteers at Champ Camp, the Rocky Mountain regions residential summer camp for children with asthma.
            
PMI partnered with the American Lung Association of Colorado and provided RT students as counselors in each cabin group to assist with medication, administration, asthma assessments, and ongoing asthma education. In addition to the counselor role, two students served as coordinators of the daily Discovery program, the community--supported asthma education component of camp. The PMI respiratory program also sponsored a Day of Discovery" where they designed and implemented an asthma education activity for the campers.
            
The Respiratory Therapy program at PMI incorporates an extensive community service component as part of their curriculum to foster the level of professionalism and visibility that the field warrants," said Sue Anderson, campus director for the career college. This increased involvement in the community has proven beneficial to the students, program and community."
                
PMI recently received the Health Educator Award from the American Lung Association of Colorado. The award is given to organizations or individuals who have demonstrated techniques and ability to impart health education information effecting behavioral change to improve lung health in Colorado. Graduates of the 88 credit-hour Respiratory Therapy program receive an Associate of Occupational Science degree.
                
The Denver campus also has programs for Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Ophthalmic Medical Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiography Technician, Respiratory Therapy and Veterinary Assistant.
