Legacy Continues with Novel Debut on 10th Anniversary of Nicolas Cages Oscar-winning Performance in LEAVING LAS VEGAS
Erin O'Brien, sister of the late John O'Brien, takes up where her brother left off with her debut novel of a woman who finds an unlikely ally by letting her fingers do the walking.
AUSTIN TX (PRWEB) August 24, 2005 -- Erin O'Brien's writing career was spurred by the tragic death of her brother, John, but her tears drove her to hard work that has paid off with Zumaya Publications release of her exciting debut novel, HARVEY & ECK.
Nicholas Cage earned a glittering golden statue named Oscar in 1995 for his performance in LEAVING LAS VEGAS, a deeply moving film closely based on the novel by John O'Brien. Sadly, O'Brien did not live to see his characters and story sparkle on the silver screen-he took his life just weeks after signing over the film rights.
But the people O'Brien left behind made sure the 33-year-old author's unpublished work saw print. O'Brien's father and sister worked with Grove Press to publish STRIPPER LESSONS and THE ASSAULT ON TONY'S, to which Erin OBrien contributed one chapter and an afterword. The experience, as well as her brother's death, drove O'Brien from the staid corporate world to explore the fascinating craft of writing. She persevered at the keyboard and eventually found her own voice. Her debut novel HARVEY & ECK proves that talent runs in the family, although along a completely different path.
Harvey just got dumped. Right after two pink lines told her she was (surprise!) expecting. And at age thirty-three, pregnancy is a condition she finds herself very ready for physically and very unready for mentally. Mr. Timothy J. Ecklenburgs life is a little different. Eck is orderly to a compulsion with two wristwatches and a calendar that earmarks events such as 'purchase new toothbrush.' The need Harvey and Eck have for one another unfolds in this funny, intelligent story. But despite the high-energy ride this book delivers, there is time for honest human moments and sensitivity. A cover-to-cover read if there ever was one."
