StatCom Launches Simulated High-Tech Hospital

Visionary facility enables people to watch, try and test technologies that enhance patient flow -- a critical issue for today's hospital.

Atlanta (PRWEB) August 23, 2005 -- StatCom has opened a state-of-the-art simulated hospital, the StatCom Vision Center, at its company headquarters in Alpharetta, Georgia (http://www.statcom.com/news/visioncenter.asp). The Vision Center serves as a solution demonstration, testing and research facility. Its objectives are two-fold: To assist hospitals in making smarter technology investments related to patient flow, and to expedite the development of new patient flow solutions.

The Vision Center is literally a miniature hospital condensed into an 1,828-square-foot area. It was designed by Kohl Gramigna Monardo Architects of Atlanta. Visitors can tour the area and interact with various technologies, or they can watch from a "control tower," getting a bird's eye view of a patient traveling from arrival to discharge. As a result, The Vision Center portrays tomorrow's visionary hospital today, not only answering the question, "What does excellent patient flow look like?" but also, "What technology and tools are necessary to obtain it?"

The Vision Center enables healthcare leaders and interested parties to examine the software in a live setting, "kick the tires," and see if the solution makes sense for their organization. StatCom is also using the facility for research, development and testing.

While a key focus of the Vision Center is patient flow, it also includes an array of other technologies besides StatCom, including Surgical Information Systems software, a fully functioning Pyxis machine, a fully integrated anesthesia machine, and many input devices and displays such as tablet PCs, mobile devices, plasma screens, and StatCom's WIBUT. As hospitals continue to implement IT for not only patient flow, but also for improved patient safety, interoperability, and other strategic issues, the Vision Center serves as a tangible example of interconnectivity and communication among all hospital departments. StatCom encourages hospitals, providers, students, and other interested parties to schedule a tour of the Vision Center by contacting Kristen Calkins, Marketing Manager, at 877-742-0402.
