Gore Vidal True American Patriot
Few Americans have the courage to express truth as Gore Vidal, be it regarding American domestic and foreign policy or any number of socio-policial issues, according to the Golden, Colorado activist, writer, author, and actress Christine Smith.
(PRWEB) August 27, 2005 -- "Gore Vidal is a true American patriot," says activist, writer and actress Christine Smith.
"Few Americans have the courage to speak the truth as he does. He says it exactly as he sees it based on his research and vast knowledge and study of our history."
Smith, herself an accomplished writer and author of an internationally popular book, as well as a humanitarian, received The Outstanding American Award in 2002 and the Amigas International Peace Prize in 2000, and has appeared as a guest on numerous talk shows worldwide regarding her ideas and writings.
"I feel more than ever America needs intelligent articulate voices, and Vidal has been this for years. Whether addressing American imperialism or examining core sacrosanct belief systems, Vidal's clarity of thought and articulation in unsurpassed be it through his essays, nonfiction books, novels, or speaking engagements. Americans could learn a lot about their own nation if only they read more of Vidal."
Smith maintains an extensive website of her political essays and other of her published works, along with an extensive page devoted to Vidal based on her personal library of his writings and interviews in her effort to share his ideas with those who may not have explored his works before.
"Vidal is an inspiration to me. His courage and boldness as a truth teller is precisely what I endeavor to do through my writings and activism, and I began learning from his books when I was a teenager."
Smith credits her understanding and knowledge on an array of issues to Vidal, "He made me think and ponder. Because of him, I questioned my own beliefs years ago, and recognized them for the limitations they were. Too many American live in a self-imposed prison, afraid to question, reconsider, or admit they may be mistaken."
Smith's writing achievements, political activism, nationwide humanitarian work on behalf of prisoners and others in need, she says, is buttressed by her desire to learn and then educate others to what she believes to be truth.
"I love America, and that's why I will work for an end to Bush's war on Iraq and exposure of what I believe are the true motives behind it, as I see it as another example of American imperialism. I see my work as a writer and public speaker in service of the love of my country. If my writings and interviews can cause an individual to question, I've accomplished what I set out to do. Vidal's work did that for me, and I now seek to do that for others be it regarding Bush's war, the treatment of American prisoners, capital punishment, the environment, or any issue which I feel is important."
Currently focused on her acting career, Smith says her political activism is a never-ending activity, "If one cares about our nation and way of life, they can't help but be involved. Apathy disgust me. It takes all of us to speak and work for the things we believe in."
