Tempest Productions counters offensive Oak Cliff" shirt

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) August 27, 2005 -- Tempest Productions, an Oak Cliff-based documentary production house, is offering an alternative to Charrokings Welcome to Oak Cliff" t-shirt. The Tempest shirt, designed with Oak Cliff residents in mind, is meant to counter the negative stereotype depicted in the other companys shirt. The Tempest shirt is being offered at cost through their online store, available at www.TempestProductions.com.

After hearing the news reports and seeing the Charroking t-shirt online, I immediately wanted to do something to spread a positive view of my part of town," said Tempest editor and publicist Mike Hathaway, who resides in the historic Lake Cliff area of Oak Cliff.

The majority of Oak Cliff media coverage highlights the crime experienced by almost every part of Dallas and its time for a change," said Hathaway.

He contacted Tempest founder and producer Angie Alexander, a resident of the Kessler Park neighborhood in Oak Cliff, to discuss what they could contribute. The addition to their existing apparel line seemed to be the fasted route.

We already have an online store through CafePress.com," said Alexander, and all this took was little time and creativity to fight fire with fire."

Hathaway designed the shirt and came up with its tagline, 'The best part of Dallas is south of the Trinity. It really is how we all feel about Oak Cliff. North of I-30 is this negative perception of Oak Cliff. People think is all gangs and crime and its just not true. In fact, my old neighborhood in the M-Streets area has about three thousand fewer residents, but almost two-thirds more crime. You tell me which one is more dangerous."

Alexander agrees. She and her husband moved to Oak Cliff several years ago partly to escape the rising crime rate in their former East Dallas neighborhood.

Theres a renaissance at work here in Oak Cliff," she said. The housing renovations are pushing southward, new retail shops and restaurants are opening -- and staying. We have a tremendous amount of history here which makes Oak Cliff a fascinating area to explore and get to know."
