Reference information provided by the US Government is ready available on the Internet but scattered over thousands of web sites and agencies. With so many sources of information, finding what you want can be complicated and very time-consuming. What 'The Reference Desk' has done is combined all the relevant & trusted information from these government web sites and created a one-stop portal for all the information an Internet user ever need. The Internet user can now easily navigate and find time critical information within the web site and not waste time and frustration navigating the complex web of thousands of government web sites.
A May 2005 Report compiled for the Pew Internet & American Life Project found that eight in ten Internet users have looked for health information online, with increased interest in diet, fitness, drugs, health insurance, experimental treatments, and particular doctors and hospitals. Specific diseases and treatments continue to be the most popular topics. But the greatest growth is in seeking information about doctors and hospitals, experimental treatments, health insurance, medicines, fitness, and nutrition. The interest in experimental treatments may be growing as Internet users become aware of the possibilities available to them. Online health seekers were action-oriented and highly purposeful because there was a pressing medical issue for them to address.
In an October 2004 Pew Report, twenty-six percent of American adults have researched prescription drugs online -- 21% have personally done so and 5% have had it done for them by someone else. Additionally, forty-five percent of American adults take prescription drugs on a regular basis, 27% occasionally take prescription drugs, and an additional 27% say they never take prescription drugs. In addition, 41% of American adults live with someone who takes prescription drugs on a regular basis.
