Since debuting in July 2005, sales of "Las Cruces" have quickly jumped to TOP TEN percent of Amazon's book list, boosted by international sales, growing popularity as a book club favorite reading selection, and a strong U.S. market for bilingual literary novels.
Las Cruces is the first novel by J.T. Fisher, an acclaimed member of the Georgia Writers Association. Mr. Fisher, a native of Southern California, resides with his family in Marietta, Georgia. Proceeds from book sales are being donated to charity; Mr. Fisher serves as Chairman of the Georgia March of Dimes. A schedule of book signing dates and locations will be released in September, 2005.
"Las Cruces," or The Crosses, provides a fast paced adventure that moves from staggeringly beautiful Southern California of decades past, to sunny Florida, where planes buzz the tropical skies to bring drugs into a nation relentlessly hungry for them, in exchange for endless amounts of money. Meanwhile, Federal agents pursue New York City power brokers employing the cash to steer global business, national economics, and international politics.
Jake Reyes heaps problem upon problem, ostensibly for good reasons, but rarely for good results, until heÂs entangled in a web of dangerous people on both sides of the law. Escaping across the border to the majestic chaos of Mexico City, trouble follows closely behind. In the end, Jake faces a dangerous "crossing" that could keep him alive. He has a plan, but his plans have always proven to be sources of problems rather than sources of solutions. Enemies are getting close, and time has run out.
Las Cruces takes the reader on a lushly described international escapade, with action coursing from a virginal Southern California to the swamplands of Florida, up to New York, the business capital of the world, and finally, to the dangerous streets of Mexico City, resting tenuously in a trembling volcanic mountain range over a mile in the sky. It's sweeping and highly stylized prose vividly depicts the scenery at each destination, and the journey between.
Las Cruces features a bilingual format, told in English while incorporating English and Spanish dialogue. Bilingual novels are becoming increasingly popular, as the Spanish speaking population grows in the U.S., and at the same time the popularity of English continues to rise across Latin America. Publishers have responded by releasing a growing number of titles, such as Las Cruces, that appeal to traditional English speaking audiences as well as the emerging bilingual population.
Las Cruces is now available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble.com, and PublishAmerica.com.
