International Television for Asia (ITA) an American company delivering entertaining and educational television to the rapidly emerging television, cell phone and Internet markets of Asia has just licensed the rights to some of the world’s most popular cartoons and cartoon characters for China.
Now Superman, Betty Boop, Popeye, Mighty Mouse, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Woody Woodpecker and others will entertain Chinese children and adults through the streaming of cartoons on Broadband Internet and through delivery to the dynamic cell phone market.
Echelon Entertainment, a film production, domestic distribution, and foreign sales company, with a significant catalogue of American cartoon animation, has joined forces with ITA to introduce these classic American icons to the children and young adults in China that have a growing fascination with American pop culture.
“The wonderful Echelon library expands our ever-growing catalogue of American and international animation aimed at the Chinese market,” said Sander K. Johnson, president of ITA, “These traditional favorites offer a nice balance to the newer Western animation we are introducing to the region.”
ITA has established a unique working relationship with its Chinese partner, Beijing China Cartoon Media (BCCM) to deliver animated content to China Mobile, the world’s largest cell phone service provider, with over 280 million subscribers, and to Broadband Internet giant, China NetCom for ADSL subscription service.
“By streaming via Internet and cell phone services we are protecting the Intellectual Property of these animated treasures,” said Michael R. Polin, CEO and Chief Legal Counsel for ITA,”while at the same time, we are reaching the target audience of young adults throughout China”.
Gloria Morrison, president of acquisition and development for Echelon Entertainment is knowledgeable and experienced in China and excited about reaching the vast Chinese market with these cartoons. “China is all about proper relationships” she said, “and we’re delighted to be contributing to Chinese culture with the assistance of ITA, who has become trusted and respected in China for delivering quality Western entertainment.”
The timing feels right for ITA, Echelon, and BCCM, "Superman, Mighty Mouse, and Casper, among others serve as our cultural diplomats in China," concluded Johnson, "promoting moral, and ethical values the Chinese respect and desire, in ways that are fun and inspirational."
