New astronomy book has beginners learning Constellations the same night

Learn the Constellations: Prime Time In The ClamShell, a new amateur astronomy book, has just been released. It is a lighthearted how-to book for beginners ages 13 and up.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) September 1, 2005 -- Learn the Constellations: Prime Time In The ClamShell, a new astronomy book, has just been released. The author is Paul Mauer, an electrical engineer and a lifelong amateur astronomer. Prime Time in the ClamShell is his first book.

Mauers book introduces the ClamShell, a construct that helps beginners focus on a specific area of the night sky.

One of the biggest challenges beginners face when learning the constellations is how big and expansive the night sky is. When I first started learning the constellations myself, I lost my way around the sky because I didnt limit myself to a particular direction - I tried to bite off more than I could chew", says Mauer.

I knew that if I could devise some way to have beginners concentrate their efforts on a particular spread of sky in a certain direction - and only that spread - I could have them up and running in no time, spouting off the correct names of the constellations and their brightest stars."

Learn the Constellations presents a monthly discussion of prominent constellations, as well as monthly charts showing their relative locations and brightest stars. It also discusses other naked eye phenomena of the sky, such as meteor showers, aurora, rainbows, sun dogs, and eclipses. The book is non-technical in nature, written in a lighthearted humorous vein.

Mauer holds an MSi degree in Applied Physics from Texas Tech University and a BS degree in Physics from Sam Houston State University.

Prime Time in the ClamShell is not available in online or traditional bookstores. Mauer distributes his book exclusively through his web site: http://www.paulmauerpublishing.com
