Both Andrew and I are requesting everyone out there to join the thousands of Bahamians whose 'Prayers for Andrew Crusade' continues to expand around the world. We believe that God is answering these prayers. We also believe in Dr. Jacobson's MRT treatments and ask the world to support all of his efforts.
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) September 8, 2005
On April 4, 2005, an ambulance arrived at the Magnetic Resonance Therapy (MRT) clinic in Nassau, New Providence Bahamas. The paramedic team carefully escorted Cadwyn Andrew Smith, 33, on a trolley stretcher and carefully placed him on the bed in the 4-Foot Jacobson Resonator. His breath was labored, he could not speak and his body was completely paralyzed. What has taken place during nearly five months of treatments is a dramatic testimony to bravery, faith and hard work of this gallant young man.
Andrew was a popular, energetic, multi-talented youth, with a zest for life and "million dollar smile" that was contagious. After graduating from high school in 1989, his dreams led him to the United States, where he eventually entered a career with Macy's Department Stores and became a manager of the men's department at a New Jersey store. Andrew was in top physical and mental shape, and clearly had a bright future. Then suddenly, one day in September 2000, he felt a twinge in his left hand that twinge rapidly progressed to deprive him of strength and function in his left arm, and, then left side. Initially his doctors suspected diffuse motor neuropathy, but as the symptoms worsened, one fateful day in September 2001 it was pronounced: he had Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Andrew had received a death sentence, but he planned to stay in the USA and fight the disease.
But, that isn't what happened  because "that isn't the way he saw things happening." He had to return home to New Providence and his mother and family, because "the cure" awaited him there. On March 1, 2002, wheelchair bound, he flew home. As time passed, he steadily deteriorated -- he was bedridden, speechless, completely paralyzed and found it increasingly more difficult to breathe, until the spring of 2005. It was then that Dr. Ian Kelly, the Smith's family physician and Magnetic Resonance Therapy's attending physician turned to Dr. Jerry Jacobson and asked him if he would treat Andrew with MRT.
Dr. Jacobson has treated Andrew (on average) three times a week and several weeks ago he also began using at home, on a daily basis, a battery powered portable resonator. And, though he is "not out of the woods" and continues to fight for his life, there have been gradual improvements in his condition and quality of life! He's started saying words and counting, as well as moving his head back and forth. He can lift his right leg, move his left leg, grip with his right hand and contract many muscles of his body. Remarkably, he can perform 10 "butt lifts" and hold the last one for 10 seconds. His food intake has increased and he sleeps more. Both Andrew's and his mother's faith have inspired everyone who knows them.
According to Dr. Jacobson: "While I greatly appreciate the significance of Andrew's improvements  Andrew is still fighting for his life against one of the most devastating diseases we have ever seen  the cause is unknown and there is no known cure. For that matter, no known treatment can either effectively stop the progressive degeneration of life or regenerate central nervous system tissues. However, I have believed for 26 years that it is possible to cause regeneration in the central nervous system  and Andrew is a living testament to that possibility. I believe that nothing falls short of man's ultimate capacity to control his environment, including that physical temple of life. What I have seen in Andrew is not merely heartwarming, but, it brings forth a new hope for the lives and futures of our children."
Andrew, through his mother Virginia, want the people of the world to know that even though doctors say there is no cure, they believe that God has a plan and purpose for Andrews life. Virginia states emphatically that: "We were guided to meet Dr. Jacobson at a time when Andrew was completely paralyzed and his communication was limited to facial expressions and blinking of his eyes. Since the MRT treatments began, he has shown all these startling improvements."
She continues, "Both Andrew and I are requesting everyone out there to join the thousands of Bahamians whose 'Prayers for Andrew Crusade' continues to expand around the world. We believe that God is answering these prayers. We also believe in Dr. Jacobson's MRT treatments and ask the world to support all of his efforts."

On February 17, 2004, Section 513(g) of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (Act), Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDR1-1)indicated it does not intend to enforce pre-market requirements on the Jacobson Resonator. This enforcement discretion applies to this type of device only when it is labeled "solely to enhance feelings of relaxation."
