About Manic Musings Magazine

Manic Musings Magazine was started in the winter of 2001 as The Manic Muse. It was created by editor-in-chief Juliana Taliaferro, a former social worker and herself a victim of bipolar disorder. Ms. Taliaferro had researched the topic of creativity as related to bipolar disorder, and had noticed that many of her writer friends also suffered from various affective disorders. The Manic Muse was created in order to showcase that work, and to inspire hope among those who were dealing with mental illness, and their families and friends. By the second issue, the poetry that was published came from writers who submitted their work through the website. In 2003, the online magazine acquired its own domain and became Manic Musings Magazine.
