Avalon Hill Set To Relaunch Classic RoboRallyTM Game:

Richard Garfield Returns to Help His Game Return to the Top of The Hill"

Renton, Washington (PRWEB) September 4, 2005 -- Celebrity game designer Dr. Richard Garfield (creator of the popular Magic: The Gathering® Trading Card Game) has returned to iconic strategy board-game brand Avalon Hill® to help relaunch the award-winning RoboRally, his classic game of battling robots.

Out of print since the late '90s, this game of mechanized mayhem has maintained a dedicated following of fans and fanatics through game clubs, play-by-mail forums and internet communities. In July, RoboRally aficionados worldwide will be treated to an updated printing of the popular game. Avalon Hill is published by Seattle-area hobby game leader Wizards of the Coast, Inc. (NYSE: HAS).

Our decision to reprint RoboRally was driven by strong consumer demand," said Linda Cox, brand manager for Avalon Hill. Since I joined the Avalon Hill team there's been one consistent question in the input we've received from customers: 'Where can I get RoboRally?'"

RoboRally is a fast-moving robot race in which each player tries to be the first to cross a series of checkpoints by moving a robot across the floor of the Grid Widget Factory" while avoiding perils such as lasers, crushers, missile launchers and conveyer belts. Unique movement rules encourage strategic, critical thinking.

The 2005 reprint of RoboRally will include new design and play mechanics that differ from the game's original release while maintaining full backward-compatibility with the first edition. Richard has worked closely with us on the re-release," explained Cox. Revamping a classic can be tricky but we're certain RoboRally's most dedicated fans will be pleased with the tune-up the game received."

Suitable for two to eight players ages twelve and up, RoboRally will have a national on-sale date of July 15 and a suggested retail price of $50.00. For more information visit avalonhill.com.

About Richard Garfield:
Richard Garfield is best known as the creator of Magic: The Gathering, the game that launched the Trading Card Game (TCG) craze. While searching for a publisher for RoboRally, Garfield met Wizards of the Coast founder Peter Adkison who agreed to publish his board game and also expressed interest in a game like Magic that would have little setup and short playing time. Meanwhile, convinced there was no money to be made as a game designer, Garfield accepted an appointment as a mathematics instructor at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. When Magic took off in 1993, Garfield left academia to join Wizards of the Coast on a full-time basis. Today, this paragon of the international game community has rejoined Wizards of the Coast as a consultant to the relaunch of RoboRally.

Wizards of the Coast, Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), is a worldwide leader in the trading card game and tabletop roleplaying game categories, and a leading developer and publisher of game-based entertainment products. The company holds an exclusive patent on trading card games and their method of play (TCGs) and produces one of the world's best-selling TCGs, Magic: The Gathering®, as well as the celebrated Dungeons & Dragons® roleplaying game. Publisher of adventure games, family card and board games, and electronic media products, Wizards of the Coast is also one of the world's premier book publishers of fantasy series fiction whose novels have made numerous appearances on The New York Times bestseller list and have sold millions of copies worldwide.
