GivingSpiral.org launches "Garage Sale America" to help meet Americans' need to donate what they have to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The American Red Cross and other disaster relief agencies are requesting only cash donation. This has frustrated many who have goods or services they are prepared to donate. In response to this, GivingSpiral.org launched "Garage Sale America" as a way to help Americans to turn what they do have, into cash donations for Katrina's victims.
Across the country for the next three weekends Sept 11-12, Sept 17-18, Sept 24-25, individuals, groups and businesses will be holding "Garage Sale America" events to raise money for Hurricane Katrina disaster relief. The money raised will be donated to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and other charitable relief agencies. This Grassroots effort crossing all political, religious and ethic lines is a simple idea with a powerful potential for good.
"Garage Sale America" events will be marked with a Green Spiral, to make them easily identifiable as disaster relief fund raising events. Participants will send proceeds directly to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army or other approved charitable agency providing relief services in the wake of Katrina.
