Minorities in Research Science Conference Hosts Town Hall Meeting on Healthcare Disparity

The Minorities in Research Science Conference comes to the Baltimore Convention Center, September 15 -- 17, 2005, where the nations top minorities in science will gather for a Town Hall Meeting on Healthcare Disparity in Minority Communities, a highlight of the three-day conference, with welcoming remarks from Ron Peterson, President and CEO, Johns Hopkins Hospital & Health System and Delegate Shirley Nathan-Pulliam, a member of the Maryland Health Disparities Coalition.

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) September 8, 2005 -- The Minorities in Research Science Conference comes to the Baltimore Convention Center, September 15 -- 17, 2005, where the nations top minorities in science will gather for a Town Hall Meeting on Healthcare Disparity in Minority Communities, a highlight of the three-day conference, with welcoming remarks from Ron Peterson, President and CEO, Johns Hopkins Hospital & Health System and Delegate Shirley Nathan-Pulliam, a member of the Maryland Health Disparities Coalition.

Along with professional development workshops and seminars, where participants may receive continuing education credits, the Minorities in Research Science Conference also offers a free Diversity Career Expo, several recognition events honoring top minorities in science and technology, plus Corporate Career Counseling Roundtables, a Science Fair, and a Health Fair sponsored by Maryland General Hospital.

Aris Melissaratos, Secretary of the Department of Business & Economic Development, will address a group of honorees at the Science Spectrum "Trailblazers" luncheon on Friday, September 16, while Emerald Honors awardees await their gala - considered the grand finale of the conference - scheduled for Saturday, September 17.

Formerly known as the Emerald Honors Awards Conference, the new name better describes this forum for addressing issues within the research science community, particularly those pertaining to minorities. "Yes, It is Rocket Science: New Directions in Space Exploration" and "Minorities in the Mix: If Not Now, When? " are just two of the professional development seminars offered at the conference.

Multicultural communities are where the action is in finding, preparing and recruiting a new generation of science researchers in the U.S.", says Tyrone D. Taborn, Ph.D., h.c., editor-in-chief of Science Spectrum magazine, hosts of the conference. Clearly, if we are to bring on a new cohort of science talent, we will have to engage the interests and dreams of people in the multicultural communities."

The Minorities in Research Science conference, sponsored by AT&T, Bausch & Lomb, MedImmune, Mitre Corporation, NASA, the National Science Foundation, Univec Corporation and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, will also host the Top Hispanics in Technology Dinner on September 16, sponsored by the Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
